Term 3 Week 8 News

On Tuesday Leah came to perform a dance and to lead a workshop. We all really enjoyed the session and learnt some new dance moves and terms. On Thursday we worked in threes to write a recount of the workshop. Here's a couple of pieces from the recounts (the full recounts are on the classroom wall):

Guess what happened on Tuesday! Leah came to our school to perform a dance in front of Room 5 and room 6. Then it was our turn to dance. We helped to create a dance. Leah told us to think of five things to do. Leah said to make it into a dance sentence. Then we worked with a buddy to perform to the rest of the class.

One exciting sunny morning Leah came to dance with us. Leah did a solo. Then we had to get involved. First we had to do a warm up so we wouldn’t get injured. We did the banana, the prune, the lion face and the lemon face. When Leah said banana we jumped and said banana in a loud voice. When Leah said lion we put out our claws and said roar!

Some of the other activities were:  race monkeys down a ladder, count footsteps around a map, work out how may logs the truck could carry without being overweight and build a bridge.

Baking Day

Today Asher's Mum, Mindy, came to help us make pumpkin pie. We know that pumpkin is a fruit so we made a dessert with it. We were also able to put our new learning about fractions into practice as we had to measure 1/4 teaspoons of spices and 1/2 cups of milk and cream.
We all had a taste of the pie and some of us even came back for seconds. Not everyone liked it though.
A big THANK YOU to Mindy for sharing your pumpkin pie recipe with us.

As part of our topic on Growing Plants we are growing grass heads. We have started a diary so we can keep track of what happens and how long it takes for the grass to grow. Come in and check out our grass heads. Some children still need to bring in a jar before they can make their grass head. Please send a jar with a smaller opening so the head does not fall into the jar.

Tie a knot in the stocking
Fill the jar with water

Put the Grass Head in the jar

This week has been a bit different with swimming each day. Everyone has coped very well with the change in routine and I am very proud of they way they all Stepped Up for Success. The children's behaviour was superb. A special THANK YOU to all parents who were able to help us, your support ensures the success of swim week.
We did manage a little bit of reading and writing and now have our first retelling of a fairy tale, The Three Little Pigs, on the wall for you to enjoy. Come in on Tuesday and check it out! Here's a preview:

The first little pig made a house out of straw. After he finished he was playing in his garden. He knew the big bad wolf would come but he thought that the wolf wouldn’t have a trick up his sleeve. Alex

The first little pig saw a man carrying straw.“Hey,” the pig said, “May I have some of your hay?”The man said, “Yes.” The pig was proud and happy with his house. Uriel

The wolf huffed and puffed and blew the house down. Then the pig got eaten. Ollie
Splash! The wolf fell into the pot that the pig put there. The pig laughed at him. The pig quickly shut the pot and never saw the wolf again. Callum
Next week will again be a bit different with Queen's Birthday on Monday - hopefully a sleep-in for all. We will be back into our routine, including spelling homework. Please keep up the reading over the long weekend, and have a look at Mathletics as well.
Safe travels to those on the move.
