Term 4 Week 10

The production was amazing. Everyone played their part extremely well and delivered their lines clearly. I am very proud of the way Room 5 stepped up. Look out Hollywood!
Here's some snippets from our writing about the production:

On Monday we did the production. I was so good the people were clapping. We had swords and chest plates. It was so much fun. Callum

I was excited because I had a speaking part and wore a head mike. Joshua

In the production I was a guard. My line was: ‘Grab him, men. The master will reward us for catching this thief.’ I liked being a guard because I got to march and to wear a silver tunic. Zach

Then it was our turn. I was Joseph. I didn’t have that many lines. I had an amazing night. Ollie

I was a villager who was scrubbing the floor. First I was excited but then I saw all the people and I got a bit nervous. Ryan

This morning we caught up on weekend sport. Elspeth competed in a swim meet at Jellie Park. She received two ribbons, including one for getting a Personal Best. Ka pai, Elspeth.
2014 has been a busy year with lots of learning happening. Everyone has worked hard and made wonderful progress. Ka pai everyone.

Our Mathletics Stars are Isabella, Joe, George and Peter.
Well done to everyone who achieved Mathletics certificates this year. You can use Mathletics over the holidays - Live Mathletics is a great way to improve your Basic Facts knowledge.

Congratulations to Maria, Lachlan, James, Sophie, Connie and Asher. You have all worked very hard to improve your reading.

Term 4 Week 5

A big thank you to everyone for supporting the fair. It was a fantastic day. I enjoyed watching some Room 5 people busk - what talent we have in our room. The book stall did very well with approximately $1700 spent on books. Thanks to Bridgette for organising Room 5 to do the books, and to Triona and Becky for spearheading the whole fair.

This morning Alex received his first Silver Mathletics certificate. Ka pai, Alex.

Lachlan was named 'Player of the Day' for his bowling at his cricket game on Saturday. Ka pai, Lachlan.

Homework: for the next two weeks spelling homework will be revision of the 7 Essential Spelling Lists and the Commonly Misspelt Words list. We will have our final big spelling test in Week 7.
Next Week: we will be swimming. A notice was sent home today. Please read it and return the slip if you are able to help. If you have any questions, please ask me.
Wednesday: we are having a Blue mufti day as it is Diabetes Awareness Week. Children are to wear as much blue as they can - there are prizes for the best dressed. There is no charge for this mufti day.

Production practices are progressing well. Please help your child to learn their parts - their words, who speaks before them and who speaks after them. A letter will be sent home soon informing you of costume requirements. Remember performance date: Monday 15 December.

Term 4 Week 1

The first week of term 4 is now over. We have started the term with a roar. We have had our auditions for the production and should find out our parts early next week. We have published our holiday stories, learning how to use the Dropbox on the computers or a new dictation app on the iPad along the way. (Come in to the classroom to read our stories and look at our illustrations). We enjoyed Discovery Time today, trying new things, working with the Room 6 and Room 4 children and being Actively Involved learners. The highlight of the week was watching 'Matilda' - our postponed end of Term 3 reward.

There was no school assembly today as the Middle and Senior students had their athletics sports.

However we did award a homework certificate. Congratulations to Lachlan for the good work you did on your spelling sentences.

Notes for Week 2:
The Run, Jump, Throw Display scheduled for Tuesday has been CANCELLED.
Touch Rugby starts on Tuesday - 5:30pm at Nunweek Park.
On Friday 24 October we will be leading the School Assembly. Family members are welcome. The assembly starts at 12md, so it is advisable to be in the hall a bit before 12md.

Fair News:
Thank you for your support with the Fair so far. A great collection of books, toys and clothing is accumulating outside Room 5. Please feel free to add to this collection. We are now collecting grocery items for the raffle. These can be brought in any time and placed in the box in the classroom.
Raffle Tickets - how are these going? Please return money to either the office or the classroom as soon as you have sold them. More tickets are available if you can sell more. Please see me or the office ladies.

Enjoy the weekend.

Ka pai, Lachlan, it's great to have you in Room 5.

Lachlan was awarded two ribbons for his puppy training competition. Ka rawe Lachlan.

It's always great to hear about and celebrate the children's successes outside the classroom. Please feel free to email any results and/or photos so we can share them I can put them on the blog.

Spelling was sent home today. Please encourage your child to write quality sentences (we have talked about this in class) for each of their spelling words. Last week very few children went on Mathletics and only 5 achieved a certificate. Mathletics is a great and fun way to reinforce concepts learnt in class, especially Basic Facts. I am hoping to be able to award our Mathlete of the Week trophy next week - we need at least 13 certificates though.

Swimming

Everything is going well with our swimming so far. The cold weather and the few flakes of snow yesterday gave way to sunshine today. The bus ride is a highlight of swim week for most children, though a few did say they would like to walk to the pool! A big thank you to all our parents who have been helping in the changing rooms after swimming, we do so appreciate it.
Here's a few photos from today's session:
